2001 4.7s have a 5-speed NV3500. It would work but might not be a quick switch.

I would have loved to have a 6 speed but I got an unbeatable deal on mine used and it had the 4.7l and 4x4. Two out of three ain't bad.

I do miss driving stick though, I used to have a 5 speed and that car was a lot of fun.

I JUST bought one YESTERDAY, been looking for a 2005-06 4.7 6 speed 4x4 for 2 years. I just got my baby home last night at 3:30 AM, I had to drive 5 and a half hours to get it too. But it was worth every minute.

I LOVE IT. Clutch is the only way to go. Pretty sad that automakers will not put sticks in trucks any more, the only ones you can buy with a stick PERIOD now is the 2500 and up dodge trucks. But what else can you do when the majority of the population is too lazy to drive stick. (This does not mean people that would like to drive one but can't because of extraneous circumstances.)

Does have a little shake in the steering wheel, but it needs new tires so Ill attribute it to that until I get new ones that are balanced properly.

I drive a 2007 V6 2WD ST -the least expensive Dakota that could be bought off the lot! I love it, my first manual transmission vehicle, and it's the way to go. I live in snowy, lake affected upstate NY. 4x4 is undeniably better, but 4 snow tires and bed weight will get around nicely.

The Getrag '238' as we know it seems to be a very good light truck transmission. It's certainly built strong, and I think Getrag actually calls it the '239'

About 380 FT-LB rated input torque! 4.23:1 in 1st!
