Default Keyless entry strangeness

Hi everyone. I don't post here often because A: I rarely have trouble with my truck, and B: when I do, a quick search turns up the answer. This one is puzzling though. On my '05 SLT, the keyless entry fails to work only first thing in the morning. Yup, works fine for the rest of the day but on the first unlock of the day I **** off my neighbors with a blaring horn until I put the key in the ignition. I've changed the battery in the remote with no effect. The solder joint is also broken but a well-placed piece of folded paper serves to keep everything in contact. Any ideas?

Also, anyone know if it's possible to disable the system until I have more time to delve into it? The manual says nothing about disabling the system completely, only how to disarm it. TIA.

Allen

Does it do this only at your house? Is there a radio tower near your home? Reason i ask is because mine won't work when i fill up for gas because a nearby radio tower interferes with my remote.

I was wondering if anyone would EVER have a question about keyless entry systems (which is what I work with for my job right now)

By disarming the system, you are able to enter/exit the vehicle with the key or the power door lock switches. This will allow you to "bypass" your keyless entry system w/o tripping the alarm which will likely be your best bet as you try to figure out the issue.

Never heard of your specific issue before though. Is it ONLY in the morning and never any other time of day? Is it more cold in the AM and warm up through the day?

EDIT: Also what Jerry said, haha! RF interference can definitely cause your remote not to work.

I thought about the RF thing but that can't be it since it works fine in my driveway any time EXCEPT the first unlock of the day. Yes, it's cooler then and I thought of that but have no idea why that would be a factor. As an update, I resoldered the remote but that had no effect.

xduhkota, can you expand on the disarming thing? According to the manual, to disarm you simply unlock with the remote. Well yea, I knew that. Trouble is, if I then lock it with the switches it simply rearms. How do I disarm it so that it stays disarmed?

Does it do it with both remotes? Trying to narrow it down to the remote or the reciever.

By factory default (atleast that I'm aware of), there shouldn't be an "auto-arm" feature on there unless it has been adjusted by vehicle settings or if there's an aftermarket system. Are you the original owner of the vehicle? If not, try taking a look under the driver's side dashboard for a small black box (roughly 3" x 4" x 1") which could indicate an aftermarket system. When the vehicle triggers, does the factory horn sound or is it a higher chirp like a siren?

By disarming/disabling the vehicle with the power door locks or the key, you will temporarily bypass the keyless entry (for lack of a more in depth explanation) and be able to enter/exit the vehicle without using the remote.
To disarm without a transmitter, try cycling the key in the ignition or an exterior door lock about 2-5 times rapidly - this should disable the system

Again, the only exception to this that I can think of at the moment is an auto arm feature which will basically re-arm the keyless entry/alarm no matter what you do. If that's the case, you've got to figure out whether that's factory or aftermarket so you can disable it.

^Definitely try this, but from what it sounds like I'm assuming you've only got one remote.

I'm using one remote. I washed the other one so it's toast. It's definitely a factory system, I bought the truck new and the horn sounds. From what you're saying, unlocking the door with the key should disarm the system? It doesn't and never has. If I unlock with the key, the horn will sound until I turn the ignition on. Always thought that was kinda weird. I can't believe there's not a way to disable the system. Hmm.

You must cycle the key multiple times as if you're unlocking the vehicle ... again, you may also cycle the key in the ignition which should do the same thing.

I've also got a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee and my remote went out on me just a couple days ago. I simply cycled the key in the driver's door lock to the "unlock" position about three or four times really quick and then I hopped in. Since I had last armed the vehicle with my remote, it should have tripped the system if I got in with the key, but since I cycled it multiple times it temporarily disabled the alarm system.
I went just using my key and the power lock/unlock buttons for the next two days with no problems which causes me to think either the cold (who knows?) or something else is having an effect on your system. Unfortunately most of my knowledge is about troubleshooting and not installations so I couldn't help you with wire shorts or anything.
