Default Parking on hill motor lubrication

I moved a few months ago and the new driveway is a little steep. Winter is upon us here in Illinois, and I was wondering when warming the truck up while parked on an incline would it be better for oiling everything if the nose were pointed up or down?

hmm....good question.....I would think that with pressurized oil systems nowadays it would not make any difference as long as the oil pick up tube is in the oil....I'm not sure where the tube is in our trucks if it's towards the back of the pan then you should be OK with the front uphill.

well if you think about it the oil pump collector is at the back of the oil pan where it dips down so if your parking it up with the nose at the highest point then the oil level on the oil pump collector and circulator will have no probe collecting and circulating! now if the nose is faceing dwn all the oil is going towards the front away from the sending unit...so park it with the nose up and should be fine no worries!

And its always a good idea to run your engine for a minute or so before driving on it regardless. When you park the truck over night, all the oil drains to the pan obviously. On a cold morning when you start the truck, the oil wont flow too well so it important to make sure that oil has actually made it to the top end of the engine before you start driving it. Just my .02. At a minimum, I normally wait for my rpms to drop to 850 or lower before I engage drive or reverse.

good advice...i learned that a while back when i used to just jump in it and go and the transmission and engine didn't really have the up and go because it was cold! so i let it warm up for 5-10 minutes before leaving and it does just fine! and thats in summer or winter

Darn I was afraid of that. I like to back in which points my nose down.

Yeah, what whtboy said...I would think there would be some warning in the manual about parking on inclines it it was that big of a deal! As long as it's not like a 60 degree incline....
