Engine Build UP/Potential Swap
Okay I was thinking about the Hemi swap VS building the 4.7 VS throwing in a 408 stroker
To build my 4.7 NA, as far as a person can, without going to straight out race design, is gonna be about $10k Not Including Machine work, gaskets other than the head gaskets, and fluids the total was $9302. That includes this whole list.
Electric Fan
Cams KRC WPE 218R
Pistons Ross 11:1 CR, with rings
Rods SCAT H beam w/rod bearings
ARP Head Studs
Main Bearings
JBA Headers
Valve Springs
4.7l Timing Package w/o sprokets
Heads Ported
Exhaust Cat Back
Sullivan Intake
Full Girdle Bolt Kit
Cometic Head Gaskets
New Lash Adjusters
Coils
CAI
Throttle Body
Balanced Injectors
The factory Crank is supposedly good to 13psi, and I cant find a forged one, so that price does not include one.
A Hemi swap would be just as expensive, (as I would intend to build it some also) I imagine, but Since I haven't priced it, I cannot be sure.
The engine that I would really love to have in the dakota is a 5.9l Magnum, stroked to a 408. I honestly see this as being the cheapest way, as I can get a 408 stroker kit, for $1900 good for as much as 1200hp (No way I am gonna hit that number, but would love to peak a little over 500) I have a 5.9l Sitting in the Shop, waiting to be dropped into something, so there would be no core price to pay.
So what you guys think, has anyone done a magnum engine swap into one of these daks?

I would but in the stock Hemi and make sure everything works right, work out all of the bugs then later down the road built it up. A stock Hemi = a built 4.7L on about 8psi boost. The after market support for the Hemi is so much better.
I watched a totally built up 5.9 bored over .030 with pistons, 318 cam, custom heads/springs and only put down 280 rwhp. I wouldn't go that direction if I had the ability to drop in a 5.7L Hemi.
A Hemi Charger RT with intake, exhaust and Diablo tune put down 306 to the wheels.
Check it out.

Wow somebody had a bad engine, or doesn't know how to tune/build, there are dozens of the 408 strokers pushin 550 RWhp and beyond easy with a light blower, several with no blower, and on pump gas!
Take a look at this one one the dyno

606hp!

Bondslayer (Chris) who drives the "Bad Banana" a turbo 408 that is pretty fast. I know they are out there if you build them right. That can be said with any motor though. I'm just saying best bang for buck with aftermarket support IMHO the 5.7L Hemi is the way to go. What is a stock 5.9 rated at? 250 hp? A stock Hemi will start you off at 350 or so depending on the year. I'm not knocking the 5.9L but I think the Hemi is the way to go.
I wish you luck either way brother. When my engine dies I'm not sure I will rebuild with forged or execute a Hemi Swap. Watching these naturally aspirated Hemis putting down over 300rwhp with intake/exhaust and tune really made me think. In fact, if you watch that video every Dodge there scored over 300 rwhp minus the built up 5.9L.

Okay next question is size, anyone got dimensions on a 6.1l hemi vs a 5.9l magnum, I mean heck, my ram...I can play soccer in there with the 318, and the dakota my uncle has has plenty of room, does a hemi in one of these daks give much to work around?
Not that the 4.7 gives a load of space lol
