I have an 05 quad cab. Last weekend we got about 6-7 inches of snow and I noticed a clicking sound coming from underneath the truck in 4X4. It sounded like the driveshaft was grinding against some ice or something built up underneath the truck. We got about another 10 inches today and I noticed the same thing. It is worse when I am turning. There is a lot of snow on the roads so it is not dry pavement. When I pulled in the garage I noticed drops of yellow fluid in the driveway where the truck was dragging on the snow. It appears to be dripping from the transfer case. Any ideas?

 

did you look underneath yet?

 

The transfer case takes ATF-4 .... which isnt yellow; more of a pink/red. You sure a neighbor's dog didnt take a leak on your driveway? lol.

Clicking and clicking while turning sounds like a CV shaft. But normally a CV shaft will always make noise if its bad because they spin all the time. Check the boots on them just incase.

 

Not dog pee. I can't really tell where it is coming from. Everything is dripping in the garage. It does not appear to be a thick fluid

 

i can't think of any lubrication related fluid that is yellow.....is it a clicking that speeds up and slows down with vehicle speed when driving straight? or only when turning? or all the time when in 4x4 and it goes away in 4x2??

 

The only thing that are yellow are some windshield wiper fluids and coolants.

 

and that coke bottle i keep under the seat for emergencies....but thats another story....

 

Brake fluid can look yellow. Its usually clear but if it drips through a bit of dust on the way down to the ground, it could color it.

Windshield washer fluid can be yellow if you get the premium -45C, -50C stuff.

Engine oil can look yellow when its brand new, depending on brand.

Road grim, or rust from the truck dripping off from melting snow

 

Blinker Fluid is yellow......

It does seem to get worse the faster I go. This morning it didnt seem as bad so maybe there was ice build up underneath that was causing it and now it fell out or melted.
