just discovered a broken rod on a 06 4.7. This engine has only 50k. Is this a common occurance on an engine driven gently ?

Welcome to DF and G3 Dakota section. I haven't seen a broken or thrown rod on a 4.7L yet except a DFW member a couple of years back sucked serious water into his intake. The water got into the cylinder, piston tried to compress the water and the rod gave way. Do you have any pics or ideas behind the failure?

Are you talking piston rod??? or Tie Rod??? Tie rods on our truck go bad very fast. They are non greasable. If you have to replace them find greasable tie rods!
