Exclamation fog light bulb question 9145 or 9005???

ive been making use of the search button and ive found a couple of threads that mention using 9005 headlight bulbs in the fog light housings. and i was wondering if any of yall have ever tried this kind of setup. if so any melting. I know the bulbs will fit with a tiny mod to the bulbs and i do have the factory bulbs. but i want to know if anyone else has tried this.

i just got done tonight installing the factory fog lamps to my st which had none before. and ill be off to the junkyard tomorrow to get the parts i need to make the wiring easy...(pigtails and relays) so i would love it if any tips came tonight or before i leave tomorrow.

I tried a 100W 9005 in one of my fog light housings, just to see the difference, but only did it for a few minutes.

I would love to leave it that way, but haven't got around to investigating if the housings would take the heat, or looking too closely at the wiring to see if it was also up to the task.

I didn't have to modify anything on the bulb to get it to fit.

So a 9145 and a 9005 are interchangeable?

I ran 100 watt 9005's for about 16 months without any melting problems, and I ran with the fogs on almost all the time with the headlights. Go for it, but one reccommendation.... don't sit and idle with them on a long time... airflow while moving seems to keep the housings cool enough, but I wouldn't trust it long at a standstill.

Keep us posted Cheeseburger. This is a mod I would like to do to get some more light up front! With factory fogs, I would worry more about frying the harnesses. People run HIDs without any problems in these housings.
