Default Had Some Fun in the Snow Today

So I had some fun in the snow coming home today. Semi's were unable to make it up hills, My rear end came out from under me doing 18mph. Good thing there was no one coming, cause it took 4 swings of the bed to get it back straight. Never went off the road, but I was in both lanes for a few moments. The guy that carpools with me lol if he had longer nails, I think I would have permanent imprints in the center console and the door. His face was white as the snow, but was proud that I never panicked, in fact after I got it back under control, he was laughing at how I was talking to the truck while it was happening.

I thought it was all good, the road had clean tracks minus being wet starting out, and then there was a curve that was shielded from the sun by the trees. Total sheet of ice from the semi's coming in and out all day after that point. To top it off, modot cleans that road as one of the last. Sweet 5 inches of snow compacted into ice, with no salt on the road.

It was kinda cool actually, my co worker was in front of me, and my boss was behind me. It was like synchronized swimming. First my co worker lost his rear, and it took 6 swings to get his back under control, then me, then my boss. Lol it was awesome. You could see all of us lock it in 4 wheel after that point.

I think it is time to look into finally replacing these bald tires. Talked about it, but I really had no ill effects till today.

Anyone else had fun this year, stories are always welcome!

About the third one in I was getting into it, and had noticed my passenger was about to pee himself, I was half tempted, knowing that no one was coming to keep it going for a while. My boss pulled up to the light next to me down the road a little ways in his brand new chevy. He gave me that wipe the sweat off your brow motion.

Anyone used Cooper Discover STT tires in snow before? These were the ones that I was considering puttin on the dak.

With as easy as it is to get sideways in this truck, I am halfways temped to take it to the north walmart parking lot that is always empty and see how much fun I can have.

Im the guy who wont put my truck in 4x4 just because I enjoy swinging the rear end out and getting it going sideways down the road. With the limited slip, it sure makes the truck fun to drive sometimes, but downright unsafe when you get on it a little too hard around a corner and the back end swings out.

My dads friend has Discover STT on his Chevy 1500 .... those things are monsters. I have heard lots of good things about them. The guy who has them thinks they can beat anything on the road when its snowing. My dad proved him wrong though with his '10 AWD Taurus with Blizzak tires in 2 inches of slick snow. That thing handles amazing in the snow as long as its only a few inches. My next truck might have to be AWD with 4-lock.

Nothing crazy with the dak other than fish tailing it into the driveway after a few inches of snow....I have that down to where I can fishtail it in and have it lined up perfectly with where I park.

A few years ago though is another story....I was driving my dad's S-10 on a nice sunny winter day. No snow on the roads at all. I had my girlfriend at that time in the passenger seat. We went around a blind curve doing about 60. Halfway around that curve there was an instant white-out. The wind apparently blows through there pretty hard because the road crosses a portion of a lake.

Luckily nobody was coming because the truck drifted at almost a 45 degree angle all the way around the curve. As fast as the white-out came it stopped, it was like a wall. I went from white-out with a drift across the road to dry pavement and sunshine. At this same time I'm staring at the guardrail to the bridge I was entering. Luckily a little throttle playing during the drift and a little assistance from some dry road kept me from going for a January swim!

One of those times that your not sure if your heart beat once during that whole ordeal. But after the fact you wanna go back and do it again!

i'm with bobby...i just love to get sideways....the only time i put it in 4x4 is if i get stuck (never happened) or pulling someone out of a ditch (several times, carry a tow strap)...
