Question Quick speedo question..

Correct me if im wrong, (searched and couldnt find it). I thought I remembered reading on here that changing tire size did not affect the speedometer calibration due to the placement of the sensor? (In my ranger I had to change the speedo gear in the tranny). Is this right, or does the tire size change anything? I am getting my smaller drag radials soon...

Changing tire size does effect the speedo. Superchips Flashpak has an option to correct the speedo.
I think what you read was that changing the rear axle ratio does not effect the speedo because the sensor is on the axle outside the ring/pinion gears.

In addition, your dodge dealer will happily fix your speedo if you change tire sizes. They can correct it to a certain size without issue. Cost only a few bucks. I did it once when I got large tires, and once again when I went back to factory.

Most members already know the story, but I used to have the truck leveled in the front and blocks in the rear, 265/75 tires, and I was burning through steering racks fast. I went through 3 racks in 30,000 miles. Dodge was pretty cool about it and covered all 3 racks, but each time the head mechanic said the leveling kit and the tires were trashing the inner tie rods and the rack fast.

There was no gain to having the bigger tires, so once they were shot I simply put the stock size back on.

Ive driven 35,000 miles since going back to factory and the front end has been 100% reliable. Had to listen to the mechanics at dodge on that one.

I think a couple other members had a similar problem but it seems that most people have had pretty good luck.

I remember the story. I thought your tires were bigger than 265/75? Yikes, thats not much bigger than the 265/70s.

The scariest thing here is we cant get aftermarket racks for our trucks. If you tear one up, you have to buy Mopar.
