2010 Dakota, 4.7L, Spark Plug Recommendation
Gentlemen,
I asked my question in this thread:
https://dodgeforum.com/forum/3rd-gen...ml#post2405568
but never got an answer. Possibly because it is a 3 year old thread that no one pays any attention to anymore.
Anywhere, am reposting the question here where hopefully one of you can help me.
I have a 2010 Dakota, 4.7. It is coming up on 30,000 miles. My recollection is that the manual says to change the upper bank of spark plugs at 30,000 miles.
Now my questions for you experts.
Would the Autolite 3923 gapped .040 still be right for my truck?
Should I only change the upper bank of plugs at 30k miles?
Thanks guys.

Are you experiencing any "shake" when the truck idles? That was the real reason for most owners to switch to the 3923s. Im not sure if the 08+ 4.7l engines still have the problem or not. If you dont, I would stay at the factory heat range, and use copper core plugs.
You only need to change the uppers at 30k. The lowers are platinum and are supposed to be a b!tch to change, but they are good to 60k miles. Try and check under your hood or in the manual for the correct spark plug. If its 5224, then you can choose to go with the 3923, but Im pretty sure the 08s use a new spark plug. I cant seem to find it at AutoZone or Advance.

On my 08 I replaced the uppers with Bosch Super Plus Copper 7962 $1.67 each
The uppers are more difficult to replace then the lower ones. The coil rubber boot can become stuck on the old plugs and rip when you try to get it off. I had to replace two coils because of this. Use dielectric grease when you replace any of the plugs to prevent that from happening.
Also you need a super slim socket, I found the Husky brand at Home Depot to be the only one that fit mine. It's a very tight fit on the top. Also use compressed air to blow out all the sand that accumulated in there before you remove a spark plug.
The lower plugs are just like any engine, they are easy to get to. I would suggest you remove them and check them sooner then later. After 100k they will be hard to remove so do it early. You can use standard plugs on the bottom you don't have to use anything special. I put the Bosch Platinum 4308 in mine but will probably use the cheaper copper plugs next time and just change all 16 every 30K.

No, the HO requires 3922. 3921 would be one stage colder. If you're not using premium fuel, I recommend trying that first to see if it cures your shaky idle. Premium is not required, but recommended for best performance,
ok and which brand do you recommend ?, i can find 3922 but not 3921 ...
