Default 3.7L to 4.7L Swap

Gentlemen, gentlemen, gentlemen. Hold yer horses, this thread is about the consideration of me doing the swap.

First off, I'm highly considering purchasing a 2012 Power Wagon, so this may not happen. However, if I decide to not purchase my dream truck, I would like to get rid of the V6 Magnum and roll with you big dogs.

So, lets consider some things that need to changed. Currently, I have the ST with a 6-speed.

1.) Questions that need to be answered:

Are there any differences in bellhousings from the 3.7L to 4.7L? Or, will my trans bolt straight up to the new engine, with clutch and flywheel?

Do I need a new ECU? Or is this programable to swap from a 6 cyl to 8 cyl?

My rear end is a 8.25" (soon to have a powertrax no-slip locker in). For off roading, should I step up to the 9.25" rear end with the 4.7L?

2.) Stuff I already know I'm going to need:

The engine, obviously.

4.7L headers or exhaust manifolds

4.7L wiring harness

4.7L AC lines (I'm pretty sure that my 3.7L ones won't be applicable)

4.7L radiator hoses

3.) Stuff I will not need

Intake, (already made one CAI)

Fan shroud (already did the e-fan mod of awesomeness)

Basically, I need everyone's input on adding to these three catagories (Questions we have, stuff we need, stuff we don't need or solutions to stuff we dont need)

Ok, so the question is: are the mounting locations the same? If we need to buy a couple of mounts, it shouldn't be a problem. But the mounting location would be my next question.

I've never even looked into it. I'm thinking the injector/coil harness would have to be replaced with one from a 4.7L. The PCM would have to be reflashed to run a 4.7l. I don't know if the transmission will even support the 4.7L. Motor mounts can be fabricated.

So, for the next question: you guys running 6-speed manuals with the 4.7L, what is the trans code?

My 3.7l engine is burning and I picked up a 4.7l so was wondering if you ever swap out your engine?

This is the impression I was under.

Tradleader, I am requiring full documentation on the sway, lol. If you wouldn't mind, I would like to know what all is involved so that I can start the process for myself.

Don't know about gen 3's, but with Gen 2, there are a lot of subtle things that made a motor swap not worth the headache. I'm fairly certain you will need a PCM. Springs (at least with gen 2) were different from V-8 to V-6. They didn't offer a manual for the V-8, so there were PCM issues there as well. Think there were some other things like ABS computer, O2's, etc. Anything is doable (I've seen a Viper V-10 crammed under the hood of a Gen2 Dakota Sport), but there comes a point where it's not worth the time and money invested. Are you thinking crate motor, or junkyard swap? At least with a truck that's been rear ended, you have all the parts up front you may need to cannibalize. If you're thinking crate, think bigger. A 392 crate would be saWEEET.
