im not an expert obviously but from what i have been researching there are two types of overhead units....a short type with the digital display and map lights....then a long one with the digital display, map lights, extra storage compartments and a sunglasses holder....so the short one is for a truck with a sunroof most likely, but its does not have to have a sunroof for it to work....again i may be wrong but thats what i have read.

well let me try this again....there are two types of overhead units....a short one and a long one....the short one is definitely used in the trucks equipped with a sunroof but is also used in trucks that do not have it as well....if you dont have a sunroof i wouldnt worry to much about it....you most likely will have to trim the headliner no matter what overhead unit you use...this is what i have read the past few days

I have never seen an overhead unit on a Dakota with the sunglasses compartment...only the short one!
I actually think it my be the other way around....short one for without a sunroof, long one with!

I will try to take a pic of mine or link to one like mine.

Mine is the long one, I don't think there is a sunglasses holder in there.

This one is for one with a sunroof between the map lights is where the sunroof buttons go. It's the one I have in my truck and I have a sunroof.
