Default Power steering going.... any tips?

Seems like my power steering is going out. Seems to actually turn fine just sitting there, but when driving, i have to be moveing in order to turn it and it feels all jerky and stuff.
I'm assuming the pump is bad.
Anyone have to do this?
Doesn't look like fun, so if you guys have any tips, bring it on!

I have not heard any power steering pump issues with our truck. I would bet you have ball joint, or tie rod issues.

i was reading up on this issue and the 01-04 daks had this exact problem with their steering being jerky and the problem ended up being the intermediate shaft seizing up and wearing out. The was that you can check it is spraying it down with lubricant and see if that takes care of the jerky steering.

The shaft will have noise, or feel like there is a hump or grab in the smoothness of the steering.

The rack leaking will feel like the steering will become tighter or looser as you make or hold a turn.

You should check the Intermediate shaft, then check the inner tie rods, where they meet in the rack. If they are leaking, it easily gets hidden by filling up the boot.

Many of us have replaced the shaft with a revised part, and many of us had power steering racks that failed early. Very few reports of bad pumps.

so i lubricated the intermediate shaft and that has fixed my issue, i know its only a temporary fix but at least that will be cheaper to replace than the rack or the pump.

Wow... this is why I join forums, like seriously. I'll lube everything up. Not losing any fluid. Seems like it works OK on the driveway just turning it back and forth, so i'll break out some WD40 and duck tape and see how it goes....
Actually, I could probably do this at work where I keep a grease gun on my Pettibone.

drive it all day every day.

If your lubing the shaft...your not going to want to use wd40....thats a penetrating oil. You need grease/lube.

i used white lithium grease, i wouldn't recommend it because today in the wet weather it wore off within a few minutes.
