My truck is a 2008 Dakota SLT, Quad Cab, V8, 4x4, towing package.
Where should I be looking for the towing information for my truck. Namely GVWR and GCWR. I'm looking at upgrading my trailer while staying within the safety limits of the truck.
On the ram trucks web site they have a thing under the owners tab about towing data where you put in your trucks info and it will give you everything you need

When determining how heavy a trailer my Dak can tow, I remember talking to a Dodge truck design engineer who told me "The maximum towing weight is where stuff starts breaking". His recomendation was to stay 1000lbs under the max. I have towed 6800lbs with my '05 QC 4.7l, 4x2 but only for short distances. With a 5000lb trailer, you won't have much power to pass other vehicles at highway speeds and you'll make much more frequent gas stops.
