Default new to the dak club

Hi everyone, Im a new member here but have been reading alot since i got my 2005 dakota quad cab about a month ago., Already put a CAI on and new definity dakota a/t tires from pepboys on. 265/70/16...if i remember right? Since im posting i may ask my questions

1) my trans cooler lines have a leak where they connect from rubber to metal, Has any one replaced only the rubber with the lines stil on the truck? and how much of a PITA is it.

2) It also looks like my trans fluid pan may be leaking from the gasket. If i pull the pan do i need a gasket or just use ATV sealant?

3) would i require a trans flush after doing either of these fixes? the truck has over 100,000 and i dont know if its been flushed before. Ive heard if you go too long its better not to flush the fluid

Thanks for all ive learned so far and in the future!!

almost forgot... 3.7 with 42rle trans

A. Welcome the to forum
1. Dealer replaced mine under powertrain warranty, if they sell just the seal then I assume its possible.

2. Factory is RTV, I have dropped my pan twice on my truck, both times replaced with RTV, just clean both surfaces very well

3. Things I have learned, If you are unsure of when something was done, its best just to do it. If you get a flush, get a low pressure flush that uses the trucks trans pump to transfer the fluid.

I think you would be ok, the cooler lines only run at max 60psi, think of an air hose, they run up to 150psi with just a single hose clamp

Welcome to the forum!! Unless your fluid is brown/burnt looking/smelling, I would recommend just a fluid and filter change. No use flushing if not needed. They have to drop the pan anyway to change the filters and since it is leaking, you could kill two birds with one stone so to speak because they will seal it up when done.

Hell, the air hose connections on my compressor have barbed connections. No clamps at all.

60 psi- i feel better now.

i think i got quoted $100 or so for a fluid change..ill do that after i fix the lines.
When i do repair these cooler lines, how much ATF should i have on hand. Will it drain alot without the engine running and not changing gears

not much if you have something to plug the holes with. I had a few of those little red plastic plugs that fit the hole perfectly. Or you could just put a couple of pans under and catch it all then pour it back in.

My tran shop exhanged the fluid via the cooling lines; you may be able to get that leak fixed with a transmission flush. I had my pan dropped, filters changed, and the fluid exchanged via the cooling lines for under $200 at a local transmission shop.
