steering wheel shaking when braking
Resurfacing the rotors is just as good as replacing them as long as they fall within spec and the person turning then does a good job. I recomend washing them with soap and water before installing to remove any magnatism.
if you have a lot of miles on them they probably dont have enough to be resurfaced. thats usually what happens. so your better off replacing them.
i got arnd 90k on the truck but i bought it with 80k so not sure when the last time the dude had them replaced. im just going to get the rotors and ceramic pads and change them out. brake job is like 250+ at the shop that changes my oil
This just happened to me 3 days ago coming to a stop from 50 mph in city traffic (lots of braking), pulsing pedal and feeling it in the steering wheel. Have drove 200 miles since and it hasn't happened again. but haven't been in the city since. Weird. Guess the truck is like me and doesn't like red lights.
I put brand spanking new bendix titanium metallic 2 pads and raybestos rotors on my 06 Dakota. Everything felt great for 2 days then My shaking under braking came back, my truck has 92,000 And I replaced the pads n rotors myself but now I'm lost at what I should do. Any ideas?
The shaking while braking, its usually rotors that are warped, as for Big Earl, when you put your rotors on, did you spray them down with brake cleaner first? And did you properly break them in? I just put new powerstop rotors and powerstop ceramic pads on mine 2 weeks ago, couldnt be happier.
This is my 1st brake job on a small truck and I didn't spray them down with brake cleaner. I took them out of the wrapping then put them on. The pads I took right out of the wrapping then put them on. I took it out for a test drive to make sure by worked but i don't know if I did the break in right?
Well on a lot of rotors, especially duralast, there' a clear film on the rotors, you spray brake cleaner on them and wipe em down, that removes the film, if you dont, and you just go out driving, the film will melt or something, and it causes the rotors to smoke / warp etc. ive seen it happen a few times. also some rotors come with break in instructions, my powerstops i needed to do 5 moderate to aggressive stops, and 5 light to moderate stops at certain speeds. Its kidna hard to mess the brake job up, but double check to make sure you didnt twist your brake lines when putting the caliper back on, that'll cause a world of problems.
