Aftermarket radio install problems
I just bought an 05 dakota slt 2wd and decided to put a better radio in it. I chose to use a clarion cz501 from crutchfield and purchased the axxess retained accessory power adapter as well.
After installing the radio everything worked great with the exception of one thing: when i turn the truck on and off the radio turns on an off.. but when i turn the truck to accessory power and then off the radio stays on (even when a door is opened).
Does the 05 have retained accessory power? Should the radio be staying on when i turn off the truck untill i open the door? If so, is there some sort of fuse or circuit i can check to make sure this is working or fix it?
Crutchfield has been a great help in trying to figure this out but after they sent me a new r.a.p. unit and it didnt work as well they pretty much said i have to deal with it. They called metra and asked about this problem and we followed the steps they gave us to try and sync the box but it will not sync. They called metra back again and they were told that this truck is just difficult to get aftermarket components to work with and i have to deal with it cause its the truck that is messed up.
I tried searching the web but didnt find anything.
Any help??

That still sounds pretty efffed up. I have had after market radios in several vehicles and I never had to do nothing except get the right wiring harness, from there it was just plug and play. Why the issue with our Daks? or is this more of a common thing with newer vehicles?

You got to remember that in our trucks everything is controlled by the pcm... It sucks but that's the way they build it!!!

Our radios dont have an ACC in the harness. they have a data-bus that controls the on/off, so an ACC wasn't necessary.
I ran my "red" to the steering column and tapped into the primary ignition. it is the wire that will have power while the key is in ACC/and run but not when cranking. use a multi-meter and probe the clips at the harness, so you can avoid taping holes up in the actual wires.
