When you get the vibration, pull over and set the Ebrake, then release it and take it for a spin.

They upgraded the shoes/spring kit/drums in 2006 (late). I bit the bullet and had the dealer replace everything when the rear was being replaced (no additional labor for me, just the friggin $200 kit).

Vibration GONE FOR GOOD (over 9 mos, no issues up until the day I traded her in).
Did you have your rear end replaced?

I am running aftermarket non Mopar drums/shoes/springs in the rear and there was no change in vibration after the swap. So I dont think its the the brakes...

The TSB is 05-002-06, and your axle flange should be stamped with an "M" or else it should be replaced.

While I am here, does anyone on here know where I can get preassembled axle shafts??

I would prefer to have them shipped to me with the bearing, tone ring, and backing plate already installed. That way I just have to slip out the old shafts and install the new without any extra work.

I would just assemble everything myself but that requires a press which I do not have access to.

Thanks!

Axle shafts, axle bearings, wheel studs, and seals have been ordered, they should be here towards the end of next week.

Wish me luck installing all of this stuff!

Well I installed new axleshafts, axle bearings, and seals on Saturday. Job isnt that bad, took a few hours but overall went smoothly.

Unfortunately for me it did not solve the vibration issue. The vibration is lessened but is still present. I think I am just going to drive it like this, I have thrown way too much money at this truck trying to track down this problem.

This is by far the newest/least miles I have ever had on a vehicle and it has had far more non-wear related issues than any of my other vehicles. I want to like this truck because its a great size and looks good but after this vibration issue, the rattles, shakes, cylinder head replacement, and a oil pressure sensor before 70,000 miles I dont have high hopes.

If anyone is doing an axleshaft swap or bearings and needs some pointers let me know, I would be glad to help you out or lend a hand if you're local.

I have a issues with my rear drums/shoes. Shoes are odd shaped due to bad drums (Had them re-machined after I found out.) But it only vibrates braking mild to hard, if I brake slowly it doesnt.

i too hate to re up an old thread but my truck has been doing this for the last 1000 miles, i got 59,957 on it. just changed the front upper and lower ball joint and control arms, new tie rod ends and stabalizer links. still shudders like hell, but only at 50+ . i was accelerating outa town and when i hit 50 it shuddered, but i did have the e brake applied at the bank while i was there, what should i look at?

Mine started about that mileage as well. What to look for? Well if you have searched around you probably already know that there is no guaranteed or known fix for this issue.

I actually just got the truck back from an independent shop who inspected the driveline, driveshaft, u-joints, and rear end. Everything is in spec, they ran it on the lift and couldnt find anything either.

Sadly, I would suggest living with it and saving your money until you can trade it in as that seems to be the cheapest and most guaranteed way out of this mess. I definitely will not be buying another Dakota.

I noticed a vibration at 40MPH. I'm thinking its the road because I don't believe it does it on another road. Just got to see. After reading a few threads like this I dread finding out it's the truck doing it... Its needing pads and rotors now.
