Strange. My pop-rivet tool has interchangeable tips. 1/8", 5/32" and 3/16".

At least I *think* that's what they are. Granted, I'm 2000+ miles away from home and I can't exactly check. But 5/32" doesn't seem like a huge problem. And my rivet tool is nothing special.

$23 Stanley tool with three tips @ Home Depot

$38 pneumatic riveter with four tips at Harbor Freight

Confirmed. 5/32" is nothing extraordinary -- if that's what it really is.

Perhaps I misspoke myself when describing the rivet tool needed for the 1/4" rivets supplied with the OEM flares. When describing blind rivets the typical measurement given is the rivet diameter and the grip range, seldom is the mandrel size mentioned. Most standard rivet tools will work with rivets of 3/32" to 3/16" diameter with a mandrel diameter of 0.057" to 0.114". The rivets supplied with the OEM flares are 1/4" diameter and a mandrel diameter of 0.151" necessitating a rivet tool with the capacity to handle the increased mandrel size of the 1/4" diameter blind rivet

I guess I'm still not clear on what's so darn special about these rivets.

Practicaly any rivet setting gun can handle pop rivets with a 5/32 (0.156") shank/mandrel.

If these are, indeed, 0.151" mandrel diameter, then they'll fit just fine through the 5/32 (0.156") nosepiece of just about any gun. The .005" of extra clearance isn't a deal buster.

*still confused*

The four common pop-rivet shank/mandrel diameters are:

3/32 (0.094")

1/8 (0.125")

5/32 (0.156")

3/16 (0.1875")

The shank/mandrel diameter is almost ALWAYS mentioned when buying a gun, and it usually appears somewhere on the package when buying rivets (after diameter of the rivet itself and the grip range).

you are confusing rivet size with mandrel size. The standard rivets that the general use rivet tools advertise 3/32", 1/8", 3/32", and 3/16" are the rivet body size, the nose pieces have clearance holes for 0.057", 0.076", 0.095", and 0.114" mandrels or nails. When you go to a 1/4" body size rivet the Mandrel increases to 0.151" which is why I stated in answer to your question about shank size, I assumed you meant mandrel and answered 5/32" (0.15625). You will need a rivet tool capable of setting a 1/4" rivet with a 0.151 mandrel. Again most standard rivet tools only set a maximum 3/16" rivet size.

The mandrel size listed on container when purchasing rivets is the length of the mandrel

your welcome TM, and they look mint bro!..... i used stainless pan head SCREWS....not bolts. they worked great... only thing is you need to pull the tires off. a "standerd" run of the mill gun with the interchangable tips WONT work! these rivits ar WAY to big!
