07 Dakota bottoms out over speed bumps
HAHA
Yep, I might be a little late in helping but that is the problem. My bosses work truck bottomed out on speed bumps, just like yours. 2003 Chevy Silverado 345xxx miles. Struts have never been replaced!!!!!!! Replaced them, coil springs and shocks all around and it rides like a dream. also brought the front of the truck up about and inch and a half
wow. 345K and still on first set of sus. components...
Anyone noticed KYB makes a set of front struts for the 3rd gen also? They have two part numbers listed. One for OEM replacement, the other for heavy duty/commercial use.
They are the Excel-G line. PN 340019 are the commercial/performance units and PN 341484 are the standard units. Anyone tried them out?
Also, is there any difference between the 08+ strut design and the 05 to 07? It seems all the struts are listed for 05 to 07 models.

When I ordered mine the heavy dutys were nowhere to be found so I got the regular duty. I like them but I wouldn't recomend them if you do any towing or hauling as there a bit too soft over large bumps but very smooth over everything else.

I'm having the same problem with the rear wheels.
Is this an issue worth having the dealership look at or will any good mechanic shop be fine?
When replacing struts, should I replace all four vs just the rear?
Is it generally worth it for me to purchase the struts myself and then just have the shop install them?
Thanks
This is on a 2007, with about 35K miles for what its worth.

If you take it to a mechanic and tell them to buy the shocks, they will mark up the price of the shocks, but see what the warranty coverage is provided if they fail and have to be done again. usually the shop with cover the cost of the shock, but not the labor to put them in and out.
If you buy them and take them to a mechanic, you can find a decent price online. You still get the manufactures warranty. If they go bad you will have to probably buy new ones, then send the old ones back for a warranty reimbursement, including labor time for install and removal.

I will add that I have the ranchos now and they will still bottom out if you go over a good sized speedbump at 20. I now slow down to 10 for them then stomp the gas as soon as I'm over them.
where do you guys drive where you are having no issues with monroe or rancho? i know here in ottawa they have a lifespan of 12-18 months before they rust themselves solid.
My struts are completely shot and i will be going with the KYB's....even if it is kind of weird putting struts from a japanese company on a north american truck....

I have about 2 years with the Ranchos, front & rear, and they feel good as new. Never any issues of bottoming out, and I sometimes run into the speed humps to test it all out. And these have gone through 2 tough winters with plenty (A ton!) of road salt. Love these bad boys.
