P0406 CEL Code
Hey everyone,
My 2005 Dakota with the 4.7 just clocked in at 63k miles and haven't had any big problems since i bought the truck in december of 09 until now. My truck has been throwing a CEL intermittently for the past couple of days.. Sometimes it comes on and runs rough, other times it stays off for awhile and runs beautifully like usual. The truck has been having a weird idle problem where it revs up really high when put into park and then bounces up and down until nearly stalling. At red lights it does this too when the AC is on. I had the guy at autozone scan for codes and he got p0406, which is exhaust gas recirculation sensor A high. What I'm wondering is, should I just replace the EGR valve as a whole or is there something else that could be causing to throw this code?
Like most people, I don't have the time or money to replace everything and pray it cures the problem, which is why I didnt go to the dealer and posted here in hopes that you guys could help me out. Once again guys thanks and I appreciate your help and I know you all probably know the truck better than I do.

I had the same code on my dakota. Swapped in a new EGR valve and presto problem solved. A new one at autozone was around 40 bucks, but god help you if you are installing it yourself. Dodge put it in the most difficult spot possible.
I found that I had to kneel on top of the intake to swap it out and it is not the most comfortable place to be kneeling.

Yeah I noticed it isn't in the most convenient location. I wish they put it in the front of the engine like they did in the hemi. Thanks for the quick reply guys, I'll head down there tomorrow and pick one up. Hopefully it doesn't take too long

Only cost me about 18 leg cramps, and I am not short.
