Spark Plugs?
Growing up, racing motorcycles and not being into hot rod automobiles I always used Champion Spark Plugs. Later as I graduated from racing dirt bikes to riding street bikes (got old) I tended to use Bosch platinum plugs in my bikes. In following some of the threads on the Forum I see that the platinum plugs are not the best for the 4.7 Mopars. My question is since Champions are stock in the 4.7, with the understanding that all stock parts are not necessarily the optimum , how does the Champion rate along side other copper core plugs? I haven't checked my plugs as everything appears to be running ok, but one can never leave well enough alone. One must continually mess with something until it doesn't work correctly, then one has a reason to tear further into it (you see where i'm going) so you have an excuse to buy, build, or change something that didn't need it to start with. So, back to my original question, how do the champions compare to other plugs overall. Thanks for any input.
I like your thinking...after I got mine...and after being edumicated by the folks on this forum..one of the first things I did was pull the plugs...lo and behold...someone had put platinum plugs in it somewhere along the line...I replaced with autolite copper core ;plugs and have not looked back since...
I put in the autolites but not real crazy about them, truck seems to idle a little rougher then before. Been thinking about tryin the NGK's.
I got the NGK plug type & number off the NGK web site Type ZFR6F-11G
6987 gapped @ .044 for the V- Power, is this the type most, that use NGK are installing? They also offer a standard plug which appears to be the same as the V-Power less the groove in the center electrode. Does the groove make a difference or is it primarily a Marketing ploy? $2.09 @ Advance auto parts, $2.49 @ NAPA, both listings for the V-Power no listing for the standard! Just curious, I probably wont get around to doing anything for several weeks. As an aside the last plugs I remember buying were going for around a buck, so 2 bucks doesn't seem all that high compared to all else that has risen in price threefold.
