Default What kind of Alarm/remote starter do you recommend

Hey Guys, and Gals.

I am wanting to put a remote start and alarm in my 08 DAK SXT and wanted to know which one works best and approximately what one would cost. I am in Ontario Canada. Thanks.

I would have to say a Viper System, I had a basic remote start/keyless entry system installed on my wifes car for around $250 IIRC. Its been a couple years ago. It has been a pretty decent setup for the money. The only issue I would complain about is the range, but you cant expect much for the price, right?

I second the Viper systems, I have had them on previous vehicles without any issues. Been looking into getting one for my 05 dakota. remote locks start at about 150 from bestbuy, remote locks and alarm starts at 190 and it goes up from there with remote start, and the other fancy stuff.

I dont have power locks on my dakota, so I know they will need to install an actuator for each door I want the remote locks to work on. It costs extra to add each door. Not sure how much, but I have heard its roughly 20-25 a door.

OK that helps a lot. I will have to price it out and go from there. Do you need to use a separate remote then for the alarm or does it come off with the door locks ?

does it have the factory security group? If it does, it's going to be difficult and costly to add an aftermarket system.

be glad. I wish mine didn't cause I want to add a remote start and can't because of the factory system. Well, I probably could, but it would cost me.
