Default trans fluid question

I've looked all over the forum and have came up with more questions than answers.

1 what is the best fluid to use?
2 synthetic or regular?
3 should I drain the fluid out of the torque converter too? (at 62000 miles and never changed the trans fluid)
4 I should change the t-case too right?
5 from what I have read if I change the t-case fluid too the total fluid amount would be 14 quarts right?

at 60k, i took mine to aamco, they inspected it and said I did not need a flush as that could cause more problems later. they replaced both filters and the fluid (using the recommended Chrysler fluid) that was lost by removing the pan (6-7 quarts, I think). the cost was @ $100. I'm at 72k now and no problems. Some on here go with synthetic, but I dont have experience with that on the transmission side. I figure if conventional is good for 60k, no need to go synthetic, imo.

if you are going to change from atf-4 to something different, you really should do a full trans low flow flush, that uses the trans pump to transfer the fluid.

I have no idea that that paper is. Not sure if mine had one. I assume its some type of paper that soaks up oil from the manufacturing process to keep the box from turning nasty.

OK I bought some royal purple ATF+4 and I'm gonna use it. On there site and on the bottle it says it's good for Chrysler ATF+4 so I'll give it a shot and see what happens. I just saw the paper and didn't know what is was, because it's didn't say anything about it on the instructions that came with the filter.

The paper is there to help prevent corrosion to the filter while stored in the box...

The transfer case oil gets changed separately from the trans, in case you did not know!

P.S. Make sure you get the filter kit for 4WD, they are different!

Yeah I got the 4wd filter I didn't even know that the 2wd and 4wd where different until I read the paper that came with the filter. I read in an old thread about the t case fluid being separate. Thanks for the info everyone

T case is easy to change its just a large star drive plug. Filling it is the challange. Not much room to get a bottle up there.
