Default Headers

This looks like a great price from what I have seen from various sites. Question is, anyone install these themselves? I have looked at the installation instructions and it seems pretty straight forward...

This is the start to my new exhaust, which will eventually be true duals with high flow cats. Just wondering if it would be less headache just to pay a muffler shop to install them for me.....

i think a shop will charge around 300 for the install. not worth the $600 for marginal hp gains from them. imo.

but its up to you.

Those look almost identical to the Gibson headers for the Ram. My step-father has similar gibson headers on his 02 ram 4.7. IDK about getting them in our engine bay but his was no problem.

Having someone else do the work is always less of a headache, unless they don't install them correctly. I am also planning on installing headers on my '05 this winter along with high flow cats and Magnaflow exhaust. I'll do the work myself.
Have you decided what cats you are going to install ?

Everyone seems to give spintech good reviews so I'll most likely go with them.

I have the JBA headers, I like 'em! This is a really good price! I looked up what I payed for my JBAs ....$333 from Autoanything (pricematched, they wanted $380).

My question would be how well the chrome holds up, as from what I see, they are not stainless steel (I went with plain jane stainless).

As far as installing them, I had a buddy do mine as I had the broken bolt (flush with the head) and I had two people tell me the head would need to come off....$cha-ching$..

He carefully drilled the bolt out, installed the headers, flashed my ECM to the latest version (did I mention that he is a Dodge tech by day?) for $350.00.

I thought it was a good price...as he had to take out the inner fender and remove the intermediate steering shaft to drill out the bolt!

I have OBX headers, paid about 270$ for them, and they went on in about an hour. easy job, no bolts snapped on me and with the tires off and the truck lifted slightly, they slid right in. I also have the chrome finish, not bad, they discolor immediately though

I've only done long tubes and on Rams, both my 2nd Gen and 3rd Gen. Long tubes require a little fabrication, more so on my 3rd Gen because I chose to keep the cats and had to move them back about 14" to accommodate the length of the headers, plus extend the rear O2 wires.
But installing them on the Hemi was cake, could get to everything from either inside the tire wells or from underneath. I had to remove the plastic well liners, but didn't even take the front tires off.

Shorties should bolt right up to in front of the cats. I think for the headers you have linked to, installation should be a breeze...

If you do get them make sure you get some good header bolts. Header bolts will help them stay flat and keep them from warping. ARP is a great brand for header bolts.

look at air ram for the locking bolts... saves on re-torquing.
