Default a few engine questions

Hi all.
My Dad recently bought a low km 2008 dakota with the 4.7 litre v8. He had a couple of questions about it and I thought you guys would be the most reliable source of info readily available.

All the internet research I've done shows only 1 v8 option which is the 302 hp version, yet his manual shows a 4.7 and a 4.7 HO version. Who is right? I found the code for his engine and it is "EVE"

Also were the previous generation 4.7 engines overhead cam?

Thanks

there are 2 types, the standard 4.7 and the HO. the HO has a J vin and the standard has a N. HO should be stamped on the heads. and all the 4.7s are SOHC (one cam per head)

For 2008 and up they got rid of the H/O because they bumped up the hp on the non H/O from 230 to 302.

Thanks guys! I figured I was right but couldn't figure out why his owner's manual showed 2 v8 options. Could be that the manual wasn't completely updated I suppose.

My 08 is the same, I think there is a flex version and a regular version both 302 hp.

Get the superchips and run the premium fuel program, it's will feel more like 400 hp :P

From what I read into it, unless your engine is modded, there is no difference in hp gains between sct and sc. That being the case, i'll take my shift schedule and tm that I het with sc. Sct don't have that option.

"It does much better on the engine side and anybody who has switched has said sct is a much better program." from hemifever himself.
