I've had trouble with some Wranglers (notably the SR-A garbage that came on the dak) but when I had my Z71 I put a set of Wrangler AT/S tires on it that were absolutely great for me.

Hoping that Hankook chunking you mentioned doesn't happen to my Ventus ST's, I absolutely love these tires so far.
Of all the full size 4x4 trucks I've had (7 in all) and all the 4x4 SUVs (6 if you count the ex's daily drivers), I've just never had any luck with either Goodyear or BFG tires. Now granted, in my younger days I was a LOT harder on tires than I am now that I'm in my 40s, but I ran other brands (most notably Mickey Thompson & Dick Cepeks) the same way and never had a problem with those. Had a Ford diesel 4x4 in the mid '90s that killed a brand new set of BFG A/Ts, real uneven wear and cupping and the dealer kept blaming the truck, but I finally got fed up with the BFGs after only 18k miles and put a set of Mickey Thompson MTXs on it. No changes to the truck - and they stayed perfect for the 20'some thousand miles with them I had the truck. Tells me it were the tires.
Goodyears I couldn't keep tread on, nor could the ex on her one Grand Cherokee that came with them. Her other 4x4 GC came off the lot with Michelin LTXs and they were great!

My '02 Z71 came with Firestone Destination's good tire and I'da kept them on if they were the A/Ts, but they were the LE's. Fantastic ride, but too "soccer mom'ish" for my uses. That truck got a 3" body lift and some Mickey's.

Good luck with them Hankooks, they are a good looking and good performing tire, just keep an eye on them for signs of cracks or chunking. Personally I think the design of most of those Korean owned/Chinese made tires is good, but IMO the compound used over there is about like anything else they make over there, a bit cheaper...

Yeah the issues that I have with the BFG's and the Wrangers (new or old style) is once they wear down they become pretty worthless, they don't hold their own in the rain or mud very well..

I did find them to be good in the snow, but that was about it, or light gravel. if that is the case i should have bought some BigO-A/Ts and just been happy with that.

i have the Wranglers on the Dakota now, and they just don't seem to want to stick to the road as they wear down....(no i am not down to the wear lines) they also seem to be a pretty hard tire, not much give to them

When you got to replace them, look at the Nitto Terra Grapplers, I put them on my Grand Cherokee. They are pretty good off-road about on par with most of the fairly aggressive A/Ts, but where they really shine is they stick to pavement like velcro, probably the best wet pavement tire I've ever owned...

I read a review on them in an off-road magazine maybe six months or so ago. It said that Cooper basically copied the Toyo Open Country M/T in releasing this tire as they had just acquired Mickey Thompson/Dick Cepek and basically did a quickie tool-up and release of this tire so they'd have a new, fairly aggressive M/T in the line-up to buy time until they could get the Mickey engineers to work on a new M/T.

The STT was such a big hit that they did an about face and put the Mickey Thompson/Dick Cepek engineers to work on what was to be their second project first, an all terrain tire - the new Discovery AT3, which is the first Cooper tire released to be completely designed by the Mickey Thompson/Dick Cepek team of engineers.

The STT gets about the same marks as the tire it basically is a copy of, the Toyo M/T. They picked a good'n to copy, the Toyo has gotten great reviews since it was released and is surprisingly good on pavement for a fairly aggressive mud tire.

Originally it was planned to be a solid alternative to the Toyo, about the same tire for a third less cost (retail) but when the tire became almost as big a hit as the original and continues to sell very well, Cooper has jumped the price on it and it's now in the ballpark of the Toyo M/T (retail).

If I could find a deal on this tire, I'd put it on my short list...

Although I have a different Cooper tire, the LTZ's, I am very happy with them, both in looks and performance.
And proud to say that they are made in the USA, straight from Texarkana, Arkansas.

Well looks like I just finished ordering a set of Discoverer STT even with the good deal that is the most money I have EVER spent on tires...I hope they are as good as they sound, tires of slipping on dew covered grass.

Looks like the messed up the pricing a bit on the invoice the sent me, will get that worked when they get put on. Ill post pics, and maybe give you guys a sneak peak of the beast under the hood. Been trying to get the last few electrical gremlins worked out so that I can post a single big build log as a bit of a DIY

I thought some people here might like it, going from that darn solid state FCM to a fully relay fuse system took some doin, but I think it was well worth it!

I don't know what everyone else's take on it is, but being able to change one cheap part to fix a single issue rather than shotgun it and replace a single expensive part that covers everything seems so mush more logical IMO.

Its not cheap to do this conversion, and it takes a lot of time. So much so that I havent finished on the axles yet. Hence why I got small tires. I plan to take the rims and tires and put them on my ram once I have the dana 44 under the dak, and get some good size meats and new wheels to go with that nice newly built axle!

For now, I leave you with this to ponder...for those of you with a stick shift, you will probably get it...especially if you know my views on 4x4's. "I no longer have a cup holder!"

Actually Ill toss another on here too, "I am so close to 6 I can taste it!"
