Had same problem on 2007 Dakota. Solution-
1. Move driver seat all the way forward and up. Push seat back all the way forward- you'll need the room behind the seat to work.
2.under the seat from the rear side, you will find the wire harness going to the wires leading to the seat belt sensor inside belt receptacle.
3. Cut 2 small wires leading to the factory connector.
4. strip a little insulation from the ends of each wire (this area is tight, and you will have to be thin and flexible to do this, however, I am 58 years -old but still skinny, so I did it fairly easily).
5. twist the wires together and cover with a wire nut. Voila, no more light or chime from driver seat.
This whole operation took me about 30 minutes once I found the problem. Many other solutions offer to get rid of only the chime, but my solution gets rid of the light and the chime forever and its free.
As I said earlier, the area is tight behind and under the driver's seat, you will have to twist and bend to get your hands on the wire, don't bother trying to open the connector, it is a waste of effort. Just cut the wires leading to it. If you have never stripped wire in a small, tight spot, or if you are large or not able to twist and bend into position behind the seat, this solution is not for you. Then your best solution is to go to the dealer and spend $200-$300 to have them replace the errant wire. Incidentally, many are recommending that one simply has to remove the fuse to stop the chime. A careful examination of the fuse box by me found no indication of any specific fuse for the seat chime and light.
