Hey guys my air bag light has been on for some time now, been wanting to get it into the dealer but was wondering if would cost anything to have it scanned or whatever they do? Got the 70k bumper to bumper warranty but hate the stupid $150 deductible. Or can I just go in and say I got the light on and they will scan it?

mine came on when i took out my seats. ive looked into it and aparently its something the dealer has to actually reset. they have to use the starscan tool. no code reader can touch it and disconnecting the battery will do nothing, that being said. make sure that there isnt anything pressing on the back of your seat. i read in one of these threads that some guys airbag light would only come on when there was noone in the seat and it was because his tool box was pressing on the back of the seat. kinda makes sense if you think about. have you recently dug into anything on your truck? seats? dash? carpet? radio? anything?

My airbag lights (both above the radio and on the dash) comes on with nobody in the passenger seat. When someone sits down, or I put a 10 lb plate in the seat, the lights all go out. It started when I removed the passenger seat. I'm gonna bring it to the dealer pretty soon, they have to re-initialize the 'weight sensing system' using a 'special service procedure'.

If you haven't messed with your front seats then it's almost always the clock spring. About a $50 part and an hour or two to replace. ALL Chrysler vehicles are notorious for it. I had to replace the one in my Grand Cherokee last year.
It's pretty easy to replace but you do need a steering wheel puller (most auto parts stores have them for rental - either free or for a nominal fee). I had intended to do this repair myself, but for posting purposes of a DIY on a Jeep forum, I called the dealer to ask how much. They quoted $385 for part and labor IF I had correctly diagnosed the problem...
