ok, have you isolated the tick? engine? exhaust? I wonder if an exhaust manifold bolt let loose (broke = loud tick) and now you have an exhaust leak at the manifold (ticking like crazy)?

so far just the oil level and condition, havent had any time to actually get under the hood and check bc ive been working non stop. gonna go tomorrow and see if i can trace the noise to a certain part of the engine. the thing that confuses me is it happened 10 mins after i shut the engine down

It is normal for a car to make ticking noises after you shut it down. It is the sound of metals warping a bit because of heat.

The sound is usually noticed right after shutting down the vehicle

thats kind of what I was getting at with the loud click he heard, wonder if an exhaust manifold broke when it was cooling down / contracting from losing heat and now there is an exhaust manifold leak...

I know on the 4.7s, the manifold bolts breaking are pretty common, that would be something I would check on. I myself had to change 2 of them out a while back and it wasn't really too difficult. With some listening you can isolate which side of the engine it's on if that is what your problem is.
