2007 Dakota keyless entry not working when cold
Is the battery original to the truck?
The date code stamped on the battery is July/2010 so no it has been replaced.
I wonder if the RF transmitter is weak... but I couldn’t imagine both keys doing that at the same time, so scratch that. Do any of your gauges act funny or not work at all when this happens?
First to the weak transmitter: When it works it works up to 100' away.
Funny occurrences: The only other strange issue is sometimes starting the truck will not shut off the factory alarm. I have to sometimes start it two or three times or get out shut the door get back in and start it to get the alarm to stop. The inside lock/unlock switches also do not work when this is happening.
Do you have an OBDII scanner?
I have a ODBII Bluetooth dongle and Torque pro on my android and that says there are no codes, but I am not sure all the limitations a unit like this may have over an actual scanner. If you think it may make a difference I can borrow a scanner from a friend and see if that shows more.
Just because you’re reading 12.4 volts doesn’t mean it’s still good because a voltage rating is worthless if no amps are being drawn, not to mention when its colder, the amps the battery can handle drop.
I understand this and no I have not stopped at a B+ or anywhere else to get a battery test done. However, I would think once the truck is started and the alternator running it would solve these issues. But say I start the truck with one key and try to use the other fob it still does nothing, unlike once it warms up and I can have the truck running and use the other remote successfully.
Is there a relay that might be sticking when its cold?
Lets say your transmitter and receiver are working properly but if there is a relay or something that needs to change state when remote buttons are pushed maybe its not and getting stuck in the "armed" position.
I'm no expert and i'm not even sure if the system works this way but i do have a little experience with wireless devices and i've never really seen a receiver or electronic device stop working because it got to cold unless it was battery powered.
Can you leave the truck unarmed/unlocked for the night and then use the remote to trigger a panic alarm or flash your lights in the morning when its nice and cold?

No not yet. I think I will probably have to take it into the dealer and have them try and figure it out. Unfortunately it has been unseasonably warm so I know if I take it now they won't find a thing.
I know it has been a while but I finally got this into the dealer to get this fixed. (A trip to get a new transmission is what led to me having them look at this). It ended up being the SKREEM that needed to be replaced. All in all just under $300. Happy the RKE works and I didn't have to spend $400 on new keys.
Hope that helps anyone else having the issue.
