Default Stupid rip-off oil change places!

I have gotten lazy the last 10 years or so and always just go to one of the local quick-oil change places, so I am used to them trying to up-sell me on stuff (premium oil, engine flushes, etc.), but I have never run into one that flat out lied to me and tried to scare me into something I wasn't interested in...until today.
I tried one of the local $19.99 shops and when the guy looked-up the specs, he "informed me" that synthetic was required for my 2010 4.7L. I told him no-thanks and then he asked me if it was under warranty and mentioned he would have to make a note of it in their system and if the factory called they would have to tell them! WOW - I was really tempted to tell them to just shut the hood and drive off at that point, but figured I'd just stick it out since I was already there. Afterwards the dude didn't check anything else or top-off my wiper fluid etc.
I came home and checked the oil level and looked to make sure they had actually changed the oil filter (they had at least managed to do that much - even though they spilled oil on the lines going to and from the tranny cooler lines under the filter.)
The place is a chain, so I think I'll head over to one of the other sites and report them later (not that it is likely to do much good.)

I do admire watching the upselling but that guy went way over the line. You will do the chain a favor by reporting.

Go to their website and see if you can contact their corporate office. Probably won't do anything at all to tell someone at another location. I went to a LubeStop once or twice when I was in a hurry. I didn't have any problems with the one by my house but I haven't been back in years because of the price... I think it was over $40 last I checked (which was a awhile ago). I go to my corner mechanic, these guys are hard working honest people who really care about their customers and their vehicles. It's usually only like $25 for an oil change there.

lol Jiffy Lube had a couple national news segments dedicated to them scamming customers. There are clips on Youtube. But that aside, synthetic IS a good investment, along with a higher end filter like K&N, Puralator PL30001, or Mobil 1 filters with synthetic media. The additional protection pays for itself quickly.

If I ever get lazy enough to not change my own oil and go to a quickie-lube place I'll turn in my Man Card. I thought only single moms who weren't attractive enough to con some guy into changing their oil went to those places???

Synthetic fluids just flat-out perform better and hold their properties longer and in my opinion should always be used. Yes, there are some performance engines whose warranty will be void by not using a synthetic, but your 4.7 is not one of them, he knew it and should be reported...

I have been going to jiffy lube since my 2nd oil change, like all, the first time was one heck of a mess, much nicer to have their guys get covered, never an issue with my shop, and its the only shop I use. everyone knows me and the truck, always getting coupons for rebates and money off, I can't complain, and now at 115500 miles, truck is still strong and running great

I have the guy would used to work on the 2k Dakota I had, and my parents cars do my oil changes. It only costs maybe, $10 more then if I did it myself, and I dont feel like changing it in the snow in winter either, lol

yep i will never go to another jiffy lube because of an incident i had a few months ago

went for a simple oil change and the guy warned me that there was no tranny fluid or rear differential fluid. i laughed in his face and told him to just finish the oil change and give me my truck back. he then warned me he would have to make note of it on the file and also i had to sign something that if anything happens to my truck then i cant come back after them. i ended up taking my truck to my regular mechanic and had him check both and he said the rear diff was great - the fluid looked new and was full, and the tranny was full of fluid but it did need to be changed.

absolutely ridiculous the crap some of these big chains get away with. i really feel bad for the people who dont know any better who get scared into doing pricey repairs..
