Ya, i was thinking i would replace my thermostat in about 5000 miles, since the its got 56,000 on the coolant and the thermostat . Ill just replace it at the same time.
I guess ill just have to pickup my own scanner which will be cool, oh well though.
Ok Hammer, one question. My truck as you probably know has 4:56's installed front and back and Ram 2500 Leaf springs installed. Does this mean my truck can handle a 2500-3000 pound load in addition to factory spec? Sorry for the thread hijack, just came to mind
Well, you'll be able to tow more than factory spec for sure, but I wouldn't say 2500-3000 as your still limited by other factors like frame/engine/etc. Also, you need to keep in mind that unless their is a documented rating by the manufacturer or a well regarded source (like the NRVA) your insurance company can (and will) deny coverage if you have an accident when towing over rated capacity...
One other thing. How would i determine if my dakota either the 3.55 or 3.92 gearing? I couldnt find it on the factory gear stamp.
My dakota is a ST model 2006 two wheel drive, with a 4.7V8. It has an auto tranny with tow/haul and my gear selector displays P R N D 2 1.
Most 05 4.7s came with 3.55:1. You can jack up the rear end and rotate the tire while counting the revolutions of the driveshaft.
I put 4.10:1 in my 05 4.7 and use a SC tuner in towing mode when I tow. It performs quite well. I towed a trailer with 2 motorcycles to/from Florida. No power problems, got 14mpg. My best mod was the 4.10:1 gearing.
It looked in other posts like the efan change was a good one. Normal highway speeds don't need a fan anyway and in stop-n-go it allows more power.
Please explain.
