Default doing the front end of the truck ( DONT BUT MEVOTECH)

well i finally got the time to write this so please read it.

first off rockauto...love the prices, customer service is pretty good, JUST DONT BUY MEVOTECH.

what i ordered
MEVOTECH upper and lower control arm and joints
Raybestos left wheel hub
greasible stablizer link from napa
Outer tie rod greasable from napa

So it started like this. One day i got sick of hearing the squeeks and getting dirty looks from everyone when i stopped at a stop sign and get my ball joints checked out. well there shot, lowers, uppers and everything in between. only 59k miles. i dont do anything with the front end of this truck. anyways, i call around and get qouted 800. screeeeeeeeeew that.

so i went on rock auto and BAM! lower control arm for 144 and uppers for like 97 or something ( i forget but its all mevotech) anyways. i was going to buy lowers from raybestos, but the day i went to order, they were out of stock, so i called and they said they wouldnt be back in for a month, so i ordered crappytech and figured their more so you get what you pay for...how dead wrong i am.

so they came (from buffalo to syracuse, back to buffalo then to my house, thanks fedex) and low and behold the arm that was shipped in the manufactures box has a ripped up balljoint (looks like a dog got hungry). so i called, they sent a new one and i just kept the old one as refrence.

so friday comes to put it on, of course first off i had to either use an air chisel or a sawzall to get everything off. then i had to order the alignment bolts, first set i got were the wrong size so i had to go to dodge and spend 40$ on 4 bolts... fml.

so i go to put them on after waiting a week and a half for the right bolts. I got it all together and drive it to the alignment shop ( 20 miles) and they told me they have no idea how i got there the arm is ONLY BEING HELD ON BY ONE THREAD ON BOTH SIDES im like what? they said i used the wrong nuts, well we inspected it and found out that as you put the nut on it strips the thread instead of gripping the thread... great idea MEVOTECH

so i call rockauto, i return them they send me new ones (going on now 3 weeks with no truck) and i try it again, only being REALLY careful with the nut, and guess what...stripped the thread on the ball joint again. same issue with the friggin nut.

so i take it to the guys at napa who (thankfully) know their crap. and i was right, it was the nut.

so i call again, same thing, return got new set. this time i went to FASTNAL..and they didnt have anything so i was like hmmm maby the stealer does, and guess what, they give me the exact replacement they would use, a nylon lock nut..and it fits the mevotech arm. now the stock nut wasn't close to fitting it...but the replacement one MOPAR puts on fits.

so i go home, after an 8 hour fight (3 alone just figuring out the tie rod, then i figured out i was putting it on upside down...derrrrrrrrr) i got it together. and i call rockauto to tell them AGAIN the nut is at fualt, they credit my account 5 bucks to cover the cost of the new nuts.

now to sum it allllllll up.

Rockauto customer service is great...except for the one lady who probably was on the rag and was a flat out B*tch.

MEVOTECH is junk. the nuts have a special flange that would work right...if you didnt strip the threads while tighting it.

oh and now i have two uppers that leak grease because i had to pop them off and i greased the pickle fork before using it and i still damaged them... so i guess ill take the hit and just go get some from napa. atleast i can take them back to a store 6 miles from my house if need be.

but now my truck handles like a friggin racecar!

Buy Moog parts, way better quality and they're greasable. I recently replaced all my stuff with Moogs, lowers, uppers, tie rod ends, and swaybar endlinks. Didn't have an issue with any of the parts.

Moog parts are not greable anymore. You can still find them instock that are greasable. This info came from local NAPA Dealer.

I only use Moog on my truck. Best replacement chassis parts IMO.

Thats strange.

I used the Mevotechs.

They were great for me. Ball joints hold grease very well. Truck aligned perfectly. Have them on since March and everything is smooth and correct. Installed everything myself.

I could have been lucky.

That was my first time using Mevotech products, so I am not going to defend them or discredit your experience.

All I can say is I had great luck with my parts.

If I wasn't so cheap, I would have went moog. My truck is purely utilitarian however, and I enjoy keeping it on the road safely for as little money as possible.

I would take this with a grain of salt....especially coming from a dealer such as NAPA, who doesn't even list Moog as a vendor that they use. They should just worry about the line of parts they sell, such as the "NAPA Chassis Parts" and "Master Ride Chassis" lines, which aren't Moog parts.

I went to the source and contacted Moog directly on this and will post my response here. Nonetheless, I find it hard to believe that they would eliminate this from productions, being that the Problem Solver line of products is specifically designed to eliminate the deficiencies in the original oem parts.

This was the response I got from Moog.

"Hi The vast majority of our Problem Solver ball joints and tie rod ends are of greaseable design and will continue to be!
