Ok so what gives, I buy some Autolite spark plugs for my wifes 2006 Dakota. I pop the hood just to see how hard to get to the wires and plugs and lookie there nothing, holy frejole, whatcha Dak dudes use, nuclear power ?????
I did a search and found plenty of posts on what spark plugs to use (proof on no nuclear) but no heads up on the latest technology.
So hard is it to get to the plugs on a 2006 4.7 V8 SFI Dodge Dakota

 

your gonna need to pull the air cleaner to make it easier. and along each side of the motor there are four little black things with 2 screws each one on each side. those are the coils. newer cars use a coil on plug type ignition which is supposed to be more reliable... either way you'll need a good 10mm wrench or socket wrench if you one of those types. lol. and remove the coil packs one at a time. ur going to need to unplug each coil as you go btw. take your time with the connectors. if you break one, off in the distance you will hear a loud sucking sound that will be your life... savy?

 

I never disconnected the coils I just pulled them up and out of the way

my coils are held on by the said 10mm nut...yours must be missing them?

 

I think he means that he does not pull the power wires connector, just leaves them attached while he pulls that coil.

 

I had to disconnect my coils to remove them, the short length of wire from the main harness made it impossible to actually remove the coil to access the spark plug, without disconnecting them.

 

When I tried to do mine, I was like there is 6 of these, and 6 spark plugs....must be under these things lol

 

That is what I mean. I don't see the point in disconnecting them if you have enough wire to work with
