body lift question
When I add these gap covers to a lifted jeep, I usually just use the originals as a template and add as much length as I need. Most recently I've used sheet ABS, it's easy to cut and easy to form - a heat gun will soften it fairly quickly so that it can be bent to the shape you want. The only drawback is that it isn't flexible and needs a better way to hold it against the inner fender than the OEM, so you may need some extra holes, and then use of fender washers on both sides to hold it solid. I was thinking about the rubber carpet, but it's flash point is at a much lower temperature than that of ABS and with the manifolds being close to the gap guards, I decided not to use that.
i have heard that from other ppl as well, that the GAP guards from PA dont work to well with the newer Daks. So what r some other creative ways that ppl have solved this isue. I heard of carpt and Sheet of ABS...I would luv to see some pics.
Look at what's going to be practical, look good, and not burn easily. There are other solutions such as getting a sheet of that same rubberized material that's used for the originals (or something similar to it) and using your original guards as templates - just make then longer to cover what you want covered. I usually cut things out of paper/cardboard to make sure I have the right design and then transfer that to the material for cutting. If you're near a source for plastic sheet (comes in anything up to about 4' x 8') or rubber products, then you have a lot of options. If you use a stiffer plastic material such as ABS, don't go beyond 1/8" thickness and buy yourself a bit extra so that you can try the use of the heatgun for forming. If you use the rubberized material (just get an idea of what it's flash point is), you can cut it with tin snips easily.
I used the pa gap guards and they worked fine. There was only a certain amount of holes and they gave you alot of extra rivets so I made some of my own holes and made it alot tighter. Overall I like the way it came out .
