Is it odd that my 3.7 dakota tacks out at only 4,000 rpm?

Default Is it odd that my 3.7 dakota tacks out at only 4,000 rpm?

I was in reverse and I noticed My truck wont tack out over 2000rpm, thought that was odd, so I put the truck in neutral and the motor only revs as high as 4,000rpm and the tack gauge bounces like most cars would do at max rpm..

Ideas? If you have a 3.7 can you rev yours??

Rev limiter cuts in sooner when the engine is not under load.

I applied my brakes while in reverse to create a load and it still only would give me 2,000rpms.

This is not the first time. Last week I posted for help with no response. I had a heavy load in the rear trying to back up my small incline driveway. At that time it seemed really under powered and seemed to buck a bit. Out of curiosity, I tried to replicate the problem by applying the brake. This is when I found the 2,000rpm limit. The bucking was the tack acting like a rev limiter.

Just does not seem right?

I found my 4.7 would not rev until I got the SC tuner. I do not know why they just won\t let these engines rev. It can be frustrating.

It's a rev limiter. It's going to do that. I had no idea that there was a limit in reverse though.

I don't think they make a tuner for these 3.7s do they?

Back in the day there was a T.S.B. out for our truck about reversing and bucking like you described. I will see what I can find on that.

Thanks! Do you have a link to look at? I just did a google search and can find a fix for it with out paying a fee.
