Default HELP!!! tranny blew up on my new purchase!!!

I just bought a 2005 dakota with a buggered transmission... i was hoping to get the winter out of it but it has other ideas.

What transmission are out there that will swap right in, I'm looking to get her going for as cheap as possible. It's a V6 auto, 2wd, will older 2wd dakota trannys work??

Any help would GREATLY be appreciated.

Thanks!!!

welcome to the forum. how recent is the purchase? Can't you take it back where you bought it from?

Sounds like he knew it had a bad transmission when he bought it. So id assume used, and no warranty.

Welcome to Dodge Forum. Sorry to hear about your transmission troubles, I am not 100% positive but I think a transmission from the 2nd Gen Dakotas will work. Hopefully somebody else can jump in and confirm/deny this....

I havent done this on a 3.7, but I am going to say for sure 2004 or newer on a Dakota, maybe a 2003 model. You could check into the Rams too, I think they started offering the 3.7 in 2002, its worth a try. I cant remember all the configurations for sure...

What exactly is the trans doing?

if you pull it yourself and take it to a transmission rebuilder, you can save alot but you better not screw up the install (dr. tranny cooler dousch...ask me how i know)

how dead is it? was it slipping and you drove it low on fluid til the truck would literally not move another inch

or it is stuck in 2nd gear (limp in)
