aftermarket stereo help
I recently bought an screenshot stereo for my 05 Dakota (8 inch touch screen single din) and I also bought a backup cam for it too. On the back of the stereo there's a wire labeled (backsight). I says it should be hooked up to a reverse switch. Where's a good place to hook that wire up? I'm going to tie the back up cam power into the tow light wires and I was thinking of running the backsight wire to the reverse wire on the reverse wire on the tow wires too. But I was just wanting to know if that would be a good idea.

I wired my Backup Camera to my Backup lights, and Screen to the same as my Radio (Ignition power)
Most backup systems have a RCA input. Which once it senses a input from the camera it automatically changes to display it. (Camera turning on, Once in reverse)
So since it is your Radio, Only the Camera should require power to it, Via the Backup Lights.
I dont see why the radio would need power from the lights to tell it that the camera is on.
Your best way would be to put a add-a-fuse on the Reverse Light fuse in the fuse box, and avoid tying directly into the lights at the rear.
Also same goes for your radio. I just tied my aftermarket radio into the 12v cig outlet (Unless you bought the CANBUS Adapter then you dont need to), same with the Camera screen, With fuses on them.
I had a problem with my Cam cutting in and out if I touched the brakes in reverse.
So I decided to make it its own dedicated system so I can view anytime not just in reverse, and got rid of that problem.

My RCA and Power for the camera Run with the existing wiring harness from the back to around the back of the cab, then it does some bends and runs inside the plastic rocker panel to the front. and bends by the drivers side wheel well with the wiring harness up to inside the bay/fender then in the grommet in by the door. My Screen is where my rearview mirror was. Since with my Backrack and Toolbox it was unusable.
I plan to redo it, Run it with the harness from front to back and in with the hood release and also cover it all in wireloom the entire way. (Since I can get over 1000' of 3/4 black free)
I also had to tie to RCA together to make it reach. I cant remember how long it was tho.

When I installed my camera I ran both the RCA wire and Power Wires together and zipped tied them off to the frame. I came in through the firewall at the steering column.
I wired the power into the accessory power wire on the CAM Bus and the ground to ground. This allows me to turn the camera on whenever I want (Other than the cool factor, reverse is all I ever use. I was lazy and didn't want to splice into my backup lights )
Good luck on your install.
