The situation is much the same around here except that I can get the hi-flow cats here if I want to pay the high local prices or I can get them from the US for much cheaper. A couple of years ago I looked into the "shady character" routine and found it was more expensive than the hi-flow cats.

Huh? All vehicles in our county made after 1996 have an emissions test, is it not the sniffer? Or do they just plug into the OBD and check for codes?

some rural states, and parts of some states were you do not have to smog/ or hit the sniffer, you gotta be in the boonies for sure....

Varnerhba, when you installed the headers, did you have enough room to get to all the manifold bolts/studs without removing or cutting the inner fenders? Having a quick look at things, I see that there appears to be enough room on the drivers side, but the passengers side looks pretty tight. Did you need to strip anything off the engine to do the job?

Reason for asking all those questions is this - I'm planning on installing a dual exhaust system similar to what you have once things warm up around here, but I was originally thinking of doing it in 2 stages. In the first stage, I was looking at installing all the pipes along the belly and just split the catalytic converter assembly into 2 sections and attach that to the 2 pipes & crossover. The second stage would include headers, hi-flow cats and the short pipes between the cats and stage 1 pipes, but I was planning to do stage 2 after I lift the body - this would give me added room to wrench on the manifolds and headers & generally make life easier.

Here in Nc atleast the triad counties they just plug into the OBD nowadays. They havent had the sniffer test in the tail pipe for a while now.

Wisconsin has no sniffer test, including large cities like Milwaukee and Madison. They just plug in to your OBDII port. If your engine light is off, you'll most likely pass. Anything under the hood goes, including breathers, intakes, catch-cans, ect. and I don't even bother returning my truck to the stock tune from the Superchips performance tune. You just have to be getting a proper reading from the factory equipped emissions system.

Interesting. I just looked at one of my inspection certs (never really paid them that much attention). They have this pie diagram on them with all these numbers. I always "assumed" that was a break down of the different gasses, but it is really a breakdown of the cost of the inspection. All the "OBD" test does is check to make sure the MIL light works, the connector is not damaged, communication can be established and no codes are present. It does list an "analyzer serial number"...I guess I will watch close this next time I gotta get it inspected in a month or so anywa
