2008 Dakota 4.7L Tuner Suggestions
Thanks Keaton appreciate the input. I am going with the superchips, however; I haven't decided on which model to pursue. I don't mind spending the extra money on the cortex or vivid but I am having a hard time figuring out whether or not it is worth it. Thanks.

so everyone could post their experiences. Have a look around, do some searches. I only know one member who bought one and returned it (cheeseburger) but I believe he was sorry as soon as he did.
Sorry bad wording. In stock form the Dakota's tranny has really lazy shifting, not snappy at all. I think there is too much Torque management holding the truck back. Bought the Superchips more for the modified shift schedules than for adding HP.
Superchips allows you to purchase an add on that allows you to make your own custom shift schedules. However due to the flaky downloader program and no response from them via email I have not been able to purchase the add on.
Edge has always been quick to reply to my inquires.
it took literally 5 days for me to very the transmission package. Had to take half a day off from work in order to finally get it to download.
The tunes are the same in all the superchips models. The flashpaq and the cortex are basically identical except the cortex gives you a powertrain warranty. That's the main difference. The vivid offers I think LCD, maybe touch screen, some other fancy stuff like android market, gps, etc... but the tunes are identical.
I have always bought the flashpaq for all my vehicles, no need for the powertrain warranty or extra gizmo's IMO.
The SC tunes I'm pretty sure give the biggest power increase over any other tuner for this engine, plus you get transmission tuning, so it's a no brainer to go with SC IMO.
If you needed custom tuning for head work, cams, etc... then maybe look at diablo as they offer custom tuning options, but otherwise I'd stick with SC.
SC customer support is pretty good IMO, you may have to be persistent but they have always pulled through for me. Their website and pc software are awful, but it's basically a one time deal, so once you get through it your set and the tuner will work great...

Also, if you need customer support, contact Ron on the superchips forum, I wouldn't waste my time going through email. I have had better luck posting or PMing to Ron on the forums. I even somewhat know someone at SC and even when I email him it's not as responsive as going through Ron/the forum. Just MO.
So I have a question guys...I am currently deployed and I have my Dak being watched over by my parents. Thinking of getting the SC tuner. Is the Flashpaq a permanent install, or is it just a plug it in, let it run, and then disconnect? Was just thinking of having my buddy do it for me while I'm gone, so when I get home for R&R and can just get in her and see her go ***** to the wall.
So, what all goes into "installing" one of these?

you plug it in to the OBD connector and download the tune, disconnect it and you are done. The hardest thing is downloading the updater to your computer and getting it to work because as soon as you get your tuner, you have to update the tuner using this program before using it the first time.
^yes very easy. Like he said the hardest thing is dealing with the awful software on the home computer or laptop. You open the package, plug it into you computer, download software, then after screwing around with it for an hour it finally works and your tuner gets the latest updates. Then you plug it into the OBD2 connector (under steering wheel) on your truck, follow on screen instructions, punch some buttons, and ~15 minutes later you unplug the tuner, through it under the seat, and drive away happy...very easy.
