Default 2008 Dakota 4.7L Tuner Suggestions

Hey guys,

I'm new to the forum just wanted to say hi and looking forward to benefiting from the vast knowledge on this forum. I just recently bought a 2008 4.7L V8 Dakota crew cab and love the truck. Im adding a K&N cold air intake, dual exhaust and a tuner. I'm looking for any input on the following tuners and which one gives the overall best performance and options.

Bully Dog 40410
Superchips Cortex 3950
Superchips Flashpaq 3865
Superchips Vivid 538650
Edge EvoHT 36050

Am I right to assume that all three Superchip tuners offer the same HP and Torque numbers but differ only in features? (Obviously the Vivid has an LCD screen). Thanks a lot guys looking forward to reading some responses.

Edge is also the same as Superchips..and I don't think the Bully Dog works for our trucks. The Superchips 3865 is the best tuner for you to get and if you plan an internal engine mods then you can get a custom tune from SCT (HemiFever)

Yeah, 06Dak4.7Silver nailed it.

Superchips 3865 here, a great improvement. Do a search here and you'll find plenty of reading to do.

Welcome aboard.

Thanks for the reply. What are the pros and cons of getting a superchips tuner over an Edge tuner if they are made by the same company? Thanks.

Sorry one more question. Is there any reason to lean towards a specific superchips tuner or will all three perform equally other than different features and the vivid having an LCD screen. Thanks.

For 2008, it says the Edge it's only for the HO engine (not sure if that's accurate though). Almost everyone here uses the Superchips, it's cheaper than the Edge also. With SC, custom trans tuning is available (for an extra fee). You can't go wrong with the SC 3865, the Cortex is exactly like the 3865, but with some sort of warranty.

Not sure what the benefits of Vivid is, that just came out. More money too.

I love the SCT for my wife's 2006 Durango (4.7L), but SCT does not work for Chrysler vehicles newer than 2006. Wish it did, but it does not.

I have the Superchips for my wife's Dakota and Edge for my Diesel. Edge's customer service is awesome!

Superchips downloader program and customer service sucks.

I picked the superchips for the Dakota because it was the most recommended and for the fact you can do custom tranny tunes with it. Our biggest complaint about the Dakota was the laggy shifting.

Your biggest complaint following the installation of the tuner was the laggy shifting or before the tuner? Thanks.

At the end of the day I didn't buy a dodge viper I bought a dodge dakota. I want to have some fun because I love the truck and can tell it is being heavily restricted; but I know I cannot expect a miracle. An ideal chip, in my opinion, would offer performance tunes while also offering a setting for increased fuel mileage.
