Looking for a new exhaust
I might get this muffler when my setup rusts out..keep the exit before rear axle, same tip and everything. It's Borla so I'm hoping it would sound similar to dakotaraven's..

CanadaDak....on my truck all they did was take out the resonator and the muffler and install the Borla single in/single out...i think is one of their turbo series.....i don't remember the exact model but it's shaped like a regular muffer, not the round one.... If i remeber correctly i paid $200.00 total the muffer and the install....
If you are just replacing the muffler you are still going to have the resonators unless you have them removed. A catback system is just how it sounds a replacement of everything after the y-pipe. Frankly I'd just get the muffler you want and have an exhaust shop put you an exhaust together. That is what I did with a single in dual out magnaflow clone with turndowns right in front of the axle and it sounds MEAN.
If youre looking to keep the truck for more than a couple years, a catback with a minimum grade stainless (T409) is necessary IMO if you dont want to ever deal with it again. Mufflers and welds on a hacked up exhaust system can rust out, costing more money down the road. I have the MBRP cool dual exhaust, made from T304 stainless that will never show surface rust. Any system made out of T409 will show rust (and quite quickly .... my brother's Magnaflow system rusted within 3 months of winter use) but it will never rust through. Your biggest worry with an exhaust is rusting from the inside-out during cold months. Condensation forms on the side of a pipe with the heat, so during the winter, the inside of your exhaust is always going to form condensation.
If you want to hear MBRP, here is a clip of mine after I got it. Since then it has broken in and is a little louder and meaner, but this will give you an idea (click on the picture to go to the video):

Going with a premade cat back gives you a few benefits. 1. You can get a proven system that works rather than experimenting 2. You can get stainless steel (many small shops cant bend stainless, and if they can, its expensive) 3. Your system will have mandrel bends instead of crimped bends (again, many small shops cant do mandrel bends). If you're going to do it, do it right! Just my .02

grrrr. such a hard desicion! regnath why did u have to do this to me! I am loving the borla sound but i think it has lost the battle.
You have some very good points, I will be keeping the truck for a few years, dont wanna have any issues or have to redo anything down the road, i dont have a very reasonable and reputable exaughst shop in town to build me a decent system with a borla muff, and now that i think about it, would rather not have a "hacked up exaughst"
The idea of having a full SS cat back kit sounds much more plesent to deal with, as well to the eye... and thanks to lightningbolts t409 system, as well as the autoanything.com code "welcome15" that he posted i can have it shipped to my door for 130$ less than my local truckstore can get it to me for, i find out tomorrow afternoon how much it will cost for the install so i think i have made my desicion.. i am a little hesitant tho because as i do live in snow country and regnath says the 409 rusts fairly quick.. does the xp t409 have a diffrent sound than your cool duals? ganna be sitting here waiting anxously for lightingbolts sound clip and if all goes well, i will have the system ordered and install date set by tomorrrow afternoon!

thanks for all the help and dealing with my dumbass...

I wouldn't worry about the functionality of t409, it just won't be as pretty as t304 a year down the road. It will never rust away on you at least. I can snap a pick of my brothers t409 magnaflow next time he's over. They will sound exactly the same. The only physical difference you will notice out of the box is the t409 system will have rolled tips, and the t304 will have dual-walled tips.
