Transmission Line Leaks
I have a transmission fluid line leak and initially had assumed that it was the quick disconnects at the cooler, but having cleaned off all the buildup, I can see that the leak is on 1 line at both crimp joints. A number of years ago I've repaired problems like this by removing the crimp collars and replacing the hose with a piece of pressure rated transmission hose or fuel hose and some stainless clamps - has anyone here done this type of repair on this truck and if so, what were the results?
Mine drips at both crimps on one line, so on a relatively low pressure line, I'm concerned that the connection is close to failing & want to repair it before one of these crimps comes apart while I'm on the highway. I'm wondering if the steel line has a flare or bubble of some sort at the end by the crimp. If it does, then I could remove the crimp collar and attach the new hose over the flare and use the hose clamps to hold it in place. If it doesn't, then I'll need to create a bit of a flare at the end of each pipe section to help hold the hose in place. My other option is to get new lines but haven't found any yet.
