Default Speedometer Calibrator

I'm planning on using tires that are approximately 32" in diameter and was looking at the Hypertech Speedo Calibrator that has the programmer and in-line module. As I see it, the calibrator only affects the programming for the chips that plug into the in-line module and does not affect any ECU parameters, but then they talk about saving the OEM configuration etc., so I guess I'm a bit confused as to whether the OEM configuration is something that does affect the ECU or is simply a data package that the programmer stores that it loads onto the in-line module whenever you need it. Anyone using this unit? Any other recommendations?

I guess I could call them and ask, but I prefer to get information from someone that has used the product first.

How much were you looking to spend on the Hypertech Speedo Calibrator?

I use my Superchips Flashpaq, and it programs the speedometer based off of tire height. If I want to change the size of the tire, I have to do the reprogramming procedure again. While my tire size is programmed to anything but stock, my programmer is VIN locked and cannot be used to program any other truck. I would personally go with Superchips only because of the added tuning capablities, including engine performance and transmission tunes.

ill second what rengnath said here.im running a slightly larger tire than what came on mine factory & noticed the speedo was off.
with the super chips you can calibrate your speedometer and tune for more performance, mileage, towing etc.
so unless the unit you mention is way cheaper & all you want to do is the speedometer, id give the super chips a serious look before you buy. i like mine, fwiw.

Thanks, good advise, I'll look into the Superchips products - I don't know why I didn't look into them earlier, I've certainly read comments about them on this forum.

Well the Superchips products certainly appear to give more bang for the buck. I see that they have 2 models that look like they would do everything I want, but other than a bit of a price difference, I don't see much difference. Does anyone have any comments or advise on selecting the Cortex vs the Flashpaq?

The only difference is the Cortex offers a 2 yr limited warranty and also has a bit of a longer list of compatible vehicles. Thats it. I have had the Flashpaq since it first came out and it has never let me down. It was well worth it. Dont be afraid to look at UNLOCKED used 3865 tuners. They will still do all the same and update.
