Most used VHT Nite Shades. It's a purple tint that is black when applied to clear red plastic.

I used rustolem lens tint, it goes on black, one of my buddies, kept putting niteshade on his taillights and he kept getting it looking purple(idk how it looked) he said he put on like 7 or 8 coats and gave up, you could see like no light from it, i thought it was just funny

iirc, the night shade goes on black...what goes on purple was that smoked chrome paint crap. I tried using that to "smoke" the chrome pieces on the truck when I was going through the "blacked out" phase....that stuff was crap! I think that was the duplicolor chrome black out coating..

Use VHT Nite Shades..I smoked my buddies Chevy 1500 tails with the Rustoleum lens tint and it looked half as good as mine..he didn't clear coat but that wasn't the problem. He also got pulled over for them once already where as I have had them almost 2 years with no issues

Ok so use the VHT niteshade, do they also make the clear coat you guys are talking about? I wanna make sure the tail lights come out looking like all yours do. So you did about 4-5 coats of the nite shade and then 2-3 coats of the clear coat. All this information is so helpful

Yes they sell the clear coat as well. I think I got both of them from amazon. I only used 2 coats. 4-5 will completely black them out, hardly any light will shine through, not a good idea if you are not going to tape off some so the light can still be seen.

i have heard some people say your nuts if you dont use adhesion promotor and that self etching primer is junk and willnot work. My personal experience is than wet sanding and self etching primer work just fine. But for this application, I did not use primer. Just wet sanded and put 2 coats of night shade on. Came out so good I did not even have to clear coat them.
