backup camera
Hi,
I want to install a backup camera on my 2005 Dakota. I was looking at some the models on amazon.com such as the ones from this links: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss...ctronics%2C128
I was wondering if there are any particular models recommend either from this list or other models that would be easy to install on a Dakota with the tow package.

I tried both the XO Vision HTC35 and the Pyle Slim License Frame camera's and I went with the XO Vision. Both camera's had good quality video, easy to setup. I didn't slice into the backup lights because my Nav unit has backup camera/reverse detection so I ran all the cables into the cab.
For me the Pyle had a Disadvantage/Advantage depending on how you look at it. When I had hitch with the ball in place there was a big area that was blocked by the ball. So everytime you go into reverse a good chunk of the screen is the ball. Again it’s a personal preference thing.
I mounted the XO Vision under the bumper with a u-bolt. I'll try and take a picture at lunch and post it.

I just recently drove a firends car (Acura MDX) and the car has the backup camera hooked up to the rearview mirror.
I thought it was so sweet.
Are there aftermarket kits for something like this?Anybody installed one?

The kit does exist. Here's one: http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/4/Auto/BluetoothDevices/1/InCarBluetooth/PRD~0352645P/Yada+Bluetooth+Mirror+with+Back-Up+Camera.jsp?locale=en
Includes blue tooth but it is more than I want to pay. On amazon there are many for less than $100 and probably a lot easier to install.

I got a cheap one off Ebay, and a Cheapy TFT Screen, Put it where my rear-view mirror was (since I cant use it) I replaced it with a radio that has a Rear view input and a 4.3" screen.
Mines mounted to the license plate, Works great. No Issues helps hitching to trailers.
Its illegal here to leave a receiver in if your not towing now.

I purchased the Pyle PLCM35R 3.5-Inch TFT LCD Monitor/Night Vision Rear-View Camera off of amazon.ca. Came to $88.39 with taxes and shipping. Once I have it installed I will let everyone know how it is.

I've got the Nav unit on the wife's Dakota and bought the Mygig lockpick and backup camera for it. Works great, mounted on the license plate bolts. Even works in the dark.
For the dually I got a cheap wireless one. Screen is small and is powered off the cigarette lighter. Camera mounts to the license plate bolts and is powered off the backup light circuit.
ITs "ok" screen is really small. I only use it for hooking onto a trailer. The rest of the time it sits in the center console. The truck is a BIG, RED, noisy/stinky diesel and has a backup alarm(BEEP<BEEP) if you walk behind it while I'm backing up you deserve to get run over.

So I finally installed my backup camera. I can be a bit hard to see the picture when light hits the monitor but otherwise the image is not bad. As for the camera it really isn't wide enough to see everything behind me but works great for hitching a trailer or getting close to an object.
The following pictures show where I ran the wires, found power, and my camera mount I made for a water pipe hanger. To get power for the monitor I attached the ground underneath the dash and ran a wire extension to the tail lights. I originally ran the power to the fuse box but found out the the fuse box is always live and my battery got drained.
This is the product that I bought. http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B004...rev_prod_title I would recommend that you buy the one with the license plate camera so the it's easier to mount.
