Aftermarket Trans cooler
I've put about 1,700 miles on my Dak in just over two weeks and I love it. After owning cars for over 8 years, it is nice to be back in a truck and the Dak is head and shoulders above the other midsize trucks on the road both literally and figuratively.
I'm looking for some help with selecting and mounting a trans cooler on my 2005 Dak. I have the V6 and will be towing a small (5x8) enclosed cargo trailer with camping supplies. I am not worried about the Dak being able to pull the load, but I want to be on the safe side by mounting a tranny cooler and maybe an oil cooler as well.
For those of you who have the factory tranny cooler, would you mind posting pictures of the mounting? For those with aftermarket coolers, I would love to hear your advice and experience with your cooler. Finally, did you mount a trans temp gauge, and if so, where did you run the sensor to?

I would try towing without first. I had some problems with mine this last winter pulling a trailer and was told "the transmission was to cold". Was in the 40s outside and I had been on the road for about 6 hours[sm=smiley5.gif]
I dont think the trans being too cool will be a problem. I live in Florida. I also need to mention, I did not get the towing package option. I couldnt find a dealer who had an ST with nothing but auto and the tow option so I wound up getting one without the tow option and adding the wiring and hitch myself. If it had the stock trans cooler, I wouldn't be as concerned.
I never thought you could have a problem with them being to cool either but have pulled same load when it was in the 80s outside without a problem so have to believe what they're telling me a little bit at least LOL
I would think about just changing the ATF+4 fluid to a Synthetic ATF+4. I plan to change mine over to Amsoil syn ATF fluid (which is rated for our Transmissions (ATF+4) ). This fluid will pour at -74 degrees and is rated for 100 degrees more in heat than a petroleum based ATF. Also a syn ATF fluid will displace heat much better than petroleum, which could eliminate the need for a larger cooler. Years ago I changed my Nissan truck completely over to syn (engine & transmission) and it ran so cool that I had to put a higher temp thermostat in the engine.
