Default SOLUTION: Brighter Fog lamps

Here is an economical solution for brighter fog lamps. I believe all the 05-07 trucks came with the 9145 bulb for the fog lamps. You CAN fit a 9005 bulb in place of the 9145. The quarter turn tabs are slightly different, but you CAN fit it in the housing. It even retains the same plug location. Also, the connector is exactly the same for a 9005 bulb.

In short, if you want brighter fogs, swap your factory 9145s to 9005s. Plug and play.

I did a test fit on my fogs, but never ran them. Technically, your fog lamps should have a 10 amp fuse, if I recall. For 9005s, you would need at least a 15 amp fuse.

Another idea, spend $30 (ebay) and get a 9145 HID kit for the factory fogs...plug and play and so frickin bright I dont need headlights anymore, as a matter of fact, they wash out the headlights (and also low enough it is not blinding oncoming drivers, at least I have not been flashed because of them)

Does the 35W HID Xenon Conversoin Kit work with the factory fog light switch ? Does it require a different lens because of the higher temperature of the xenon bulb ? What else do I need to know before ordering a kit ?

speaking of HIDs

those of you who run them in the headlights/foglights

do you have a reflector in the lowbeams?
do you still have hi-beams? if not what do you use the highbeam circuit for?
do the fogs get warmer than reg bulbs/the 9005 upgrade mentioned earlier?

The fogs were strictly plug and play. No idea about how hot. I was under the (maybe incorrect) assumption that hids ran cooler than halogen..

Just a FYI. Always think twice about increasing the fuse size on any circuit because it's fused according to the size of the wire. Increasing the fuse size may cause the circuit to overheat and become a real fire hazard. Just saying.
