Default Questions re: plasti dip

Ok, so I have been looking at this plasti dip thing and considering dipping part of my wheels. Just how easy is this to use? Is there a lot of prep work that has to be done like sanding the wheel? How many spray cans would I need to paint approximately half of the area of each wheel?

Thanks for any input.

That's the beauty of Plasti-Dip, aside from cleaning the surface you don't need to do any prep work. What's nice is if you don't like it, you can cut it with a sharp knife and peel it off and underneath isn't a scuffed up mess.

I do hit where I'm going to apply it with a quick spray of adhesion promoter though, dunno if it's really needed but it doesn't hurt...

I agree. I buy the black spray on dip every now and theni wish i had more colors to choose from.

And its funny because the label shows some pliers covered in yellow plasti dip, even on the spray can

My local Lowes carries the spray in Black & Yellow. I've seen other colors available in the spray can on Amazon.com and other online sources...

Just did 4 rims. Used two cans, four coats.

Not too thrilled with it. Looks good but it doesn't seem very durable. I bumped a rim with a socket(not hard at all) and it put a mark on it.

Don't think I'll use it again. We'll how it stands up, time will tell.

I also hit it with 2 coats of clear coat after the 4 coats of plastidip.

I didn't prep at all. Well I did go to the car wash and use wheel cleaner and baby wipes but i just sprayed that junk on. Didn't even mask the tires or brakes. No knife needed for removal. Just pick at it and it peals off like a big piece of tape.

Check PlastiDip on the web......comes premade in a variety of colors and even a new version where you can mix your own color. I only need black though, so I'm headed to Home Depot tomorrow. Maybe work on it this weekend.
